For my second project for the second semester me my group work with a new company named Picoo. They create a device for elementary school children marketed as an interactive gaming system designed to promote outdoor play and physical activity in children. It integrates technology with outdoor activities to provide an engaging and educational experience. They have a game called Quizstaffete that is a quiz game using their devises. For now they only have 5 quizzes in English and 11 quizzes in Dutch.
Our job is to research, think of and create an interface for creating new quizzes. The company gave their presentation and a demonstration of their product after which me and my group did a debriefing of the task. We made a document consisting everything we debriefed about the task at hand some challenges we may encounter on the way and sent it to the company to see if we are working in the write track before starting the actual project. They gave us the green light and we started on the research.
After the debriefing we started working on the interview questions and the product testing. We rented the picoos for a week and we tried to use them. We encountered a lot of problems that we didn’t expect. The connection process was really hard since the devices had to be updated every time someone wanted to connect them to their phone. Also when we started using them there were some UX problems like the timer at the Quizstaffete game that we had to wait for since the app did not detect when all connected devices answered the questions and also the fact that most times the person that intentionally gave only wrong answer or had the most wrong answer was shown to have won the game.
After testing the product for a while we started working on the interview questions and scheduling the interviews themselves. For the interview questions we got feedback that we first need to establish what we want to know out of the interview and then based on that to think of the questions, so that’s what we did. As for the interviews we started reaching out to friends and family who know elementary school teachers. It was quite hard trying to find elementary school teachers but at the end we managed to schedule a few interviews. Also says one of our group members is Dutch she went to her elementary school and interviewed some teachers so we can get a better conclusion on the user study having more answers.
The group and the client had the first Sprint review in which we mostly showed the conclusions we came to from the product testing and about our plans for the rest of the project. The feedback from the client was that if we can't find a lot of people from this specific target group we have to settle for the second best or the third best options also they answered some of the questions regarding the product testing and also discussed the end goal that we want to achieve. After the talk we started doing the interviews we had scheduled previously and working on concluding the user study. We did the interviews, transcribe them and made persona using the conclusion we came to.
Next step was to start working on a prototype. We decided to make a low to mid fidelity prototype that we are going to test with users and then after that we are going to finalize the design. After we were done with the low to mid fidelity prototype we performed a user test on it so we can confirm that the design we are going with is easily understandable and clear. The test went well and the person we tested had minimal remarks on which we worked on and fixed. Next we finalized the design and worked on the final presentation.
