PERSONAL PORTFOLIO

SEMESTER 2

For my first project for the semester me and my group had to work on the branding of a student from the rock academy (Owen Bryce). He requested a logo, a website prototype, a branding strategy and an EP cover. First, we had to get to know the person and his style as an artist. From what we gathered he is an optimistic and cheerful person, and his music reflects that. The group performed a competitor analysis of some artists that inspire Owen and make the same style of music. With that in mind some mood boards were created to visualize the group’s impression of his vibe. We presented them to him, and he thought that two of them really catch his style, so we combined them.

Afterwards each of us conducted an interview so the group can see what his potential audience thinks of his music. The results from the interviews were used so each member can create a persona to use later on in the development process. The next step was to start working on the products the client requested. We started with the logo. Each of the group members made some logos which we presented to the client. After a few iterations Owen Bryce chose one of the logos that I made. With his help I managed to make the logo the way he envisioned it.

BRANDING

We had a face-to-face meeting with the client to show him everything we have done so far and to decide how to continue. I presented a website we found while making the competitor analysis that we thought we could use as a main source of inspiration for his product. He really enjoyed the idea. The website consists mostly of images of the artist and some interesting typography. Our teacher suggested conducting a test photoshoot to figure out the set up and to try some photo ideas. We did the test photoshoot which turned out great, but for the actual photoshoot we came to a conclusion that we would need more props and different setups.

The group started working on the brand guide and the website prototype. I made a mockup of the website with the help of my teammates and also helped with the making of the brand guild where I made the color palette tab, gave the idea for the inspirations tab and also gave the idea for the general layout for the different tabs. The next step was to do the actual photoshoot and to finish the brand guide.

In the last week of the projects my group performed the photoshoot with our client. During this time, I learned more about media production. We shot some nice photos that the client was really pleased with. After the shoot we focused on finishing the brand guide and the website prototype. I worked mostly on the website using the layout I previously did. I made a version with some of the photos from the shoot and sent it to the client for feedback. He liked it but wanted me to add some more sections. So I worked on that next and after some more feedback we came to a mutual decision.

Also we finished with the brand guide and validated the final iteration with the client. As a surprise for him we decided to make some posters and print them out so we can give them out to the audience during the presentation. The group presented at the end of the week. The client was very pleased with the final results and was pleasantly surprised by the posters we made. All and all this project was really fun and informative. It helped me improve my professional communication skills and also helped me mistakes that the group did during our work with the client. Also I learned a lot of useful skills that I would use in the future.
